Network Rail
Network Rail is a private company British which is owner of the Railway network ex- British Railways (the British domestic network) of which it ensures management and maintenance. This network includes/understands the ways, the indication, works of art (Tunnel S and bridges), the crossings level and the Gare S. It took again the network by repurchasing Railtrack plc, which was the manager network since the privatization and which was at the edge of the bankruptcy, in Railtrack Group plc for 500 million pounds sterling. This company is declared like private but without shareholder and not distributing his possible benefit. The State pours half of its incomes to him, other half coming the operators of trains. In November 2006 she declares its first benefit.
In October 2003, Network Rail announced that it took again the maintenance of the network up to that point ensured by private subcontractors. The objective would be double: to improve the level of quality of maintenance and to contain the rise of the prices. In spite of the denials of the company, much of commentators sees in this evolution a step moreover towards the renationalization of the network.
This opinion was reinforced in February 2004 with the installation of one operational center at the station of Waterloo station with London, exploited jointly by Network Rail and the company South West Trains. It is the first time since the privatization which such a diagram of collaboration between an owner and the manager of the network is set up, and he is regarded as a model for other sectors of the network.
