Network News Transfer Protocol

Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) is a Protocole network corresponding to the layer application of the diagram OSI. It is specified by RFC 977.

This protocol was altered and supplemented in October 2006. The RFC 3977 makes obsolete the RFC 977.

NNTP is used in particular by the discussion forums Usenet ( to see this article for a summary description of the protocol ).

Waiters NNTP usually listen on port 119.
