Network Information Center

Network Information Center (NIC) was formerly the name given to the organizations which managed the data-processing networks, in particular Internet by ensuring the recording of the single parameters (the addresses, for example) and by having a role of council and information, from where them name.

This role is held today by the registers of domain names and the registers of IP addresses, which often kept the initials NIC in their name.
