Network France overseas
RFO (Network France Overseas) is a national company of program of the operative group France Televisions on four continents a network of 17 television channels and 10 public chains of radio bound for the Outre-mer French.
History of the network
The September 25th 1954 is created by decree the service of the Radiodiffusion of France Overseas (RFOM) by regrouping of all the radios of overseas. The Société of broadcasting of France of overseas (SORAFOM) succeeds to him in 1955, placed under the dependence of the SOFIRAD which manages the audio-visual activities external of the France since 1942. It is replaced in 1964 by the radiophonic Office of co-operation (OCORA) which depends on the news ORTF which has just been created.To the bursting of ORTF in 1974, the OCORA is entrusted to the new business of program France Areas 3 (FR3) which recovers the audio-visual activities (radio and television) of the ex-ORTF in area. It is famous FR3 DOM-TOM and charged with audio-visual in DOM-TOM. In December 1982, FR3 DOM-TOM gains its autonomy to become a company of program to baptized whole share Société of Broadcasting and French television for Overseas (RFO) the under the presidency of Rene Maheu. During the 14 years which will follow, RFO gradually will make up for its lost time and will obtain technical equipment of quality in order to produce and diffuse more and more regional emissions.
In 1997, Jean-Marie Cavada is named president and insufflates a blow of young person to the network which is renamed Réseau France Overseas . It modernizes the preparing and operates a major technological mutation by equipping the new seat with Malakoff of video-numerical waiters to migrate towards the “numerical whole”. It is first technological in France. The revival also passes by a better visibility of RFO in Métropole. For this purpose, the group created in 1998 RFO Sat, a television channel exclusively devoted to overseas diffusing on the cable and the bouquets satellite an anthology of the programs of the 8 regional stations of RFO in order to better make known DOM-TOM with metropolitan French, and diffuses the every day at the semi-day a flash of information following the national newspaper of France 3.
RFO is also given for mission of being used as bond between the foreign emigrants living in the DOM-TOM French and their countries of origin. There exist thus two news magazines d' bound for the Malgaches and of the Fiji ens.
In July 2004, following the law of reform of audio-visual, the government decided to integrate RFO into the public audio-visual group France Televisions. Like all the other companies of program of the group, the network is henceforth directed by a managing director directly attached to the chairman of the holding public. For marking this integration with the public group well, RFO Sat is renamed France O and, like all the chains of the group, should be diffused on TNT during 2007, initially on the Île-de-France then gradually on the great agglomerations.
