Nernier

Nernier is a common French, located in the department of the Haute-Savoie and the area the Rhone-Alps. It belongs to the French Chablais.

Geography

The commune is bordering Lac Léman on its southern bank. It is located between Yvoire and Messery.

Access : Since Annemasse to take the direction of Thonon-the-Baths until Douvaine, then until Nernier while not passing Messery.

History

On the site of Nernier, existed a prehistoric lake city and a village existed at the time of the Romans. The vine and the corn were then cultivated there.

With the the Middle Ages, the Bernese troops besieged and taken the borough.

At the 18th century, the duke of Savoy made build the bell-tower of the commune, and at the end of the 19th century, Napoleon III made build the port.

Durand the last centuries, the village lived of an important activity of tanning of the skins, fishing and of an activity of smuggling with Switzerland.

Administration

The common one belongs to the Canton of Douvaine and the Communauté of communes of Bas-Chablais.

Demography

In the commune, called “the pearl of Léman”, settled many artists of 22 nationalities. Nearly five hundred inhabitants live there at the time of the beautiful season.

Places and monuments

The commune is a very romantic place, at the houses of Molasse S and Quicklime, with the pink trémières and climbing Vigne S.
