Nerja

Nerja is a city of the south of the Mediterranean coast of the Spain. It is in the Comarque of Axarquía, Province of Málaga, autonomous community of Andalusia. It is located at an about sixty kilometers of Málaga.

Limits: in NORTH with the municipality of Cómpeta, in NORTH EAST with a Grenadian municipality, in the EAST with the Grenadian municipality of Almuñécar, at the CUS with the Mediterranean, the WEST with the municipality of Torrox, and in NORTH with the municipality of Frigiliana.

History

Nerja has long and old history, tested by cave paintings discovered in famous the cave of Nerja in 1959 which is nowadays the Spanish tourist place more visited after the Musée of Prado of Madrid and the Alhambra of Grenade (Spain).

Under the Moslem reign, the name was Narixa, which means " fountain abondante" and which is the origin of the current name.

In the center of the village, there is, the Balcon of Europe , a watchtower which offers an imposing sight of the sea to its hosts. The name of " Balcony of Europe" was proposed by King Alphonse XII of Spain which visited the province and in particular the city in 1885 after a disastrous seism, and which remained captivated by the scene which was offered to him.

Nerja has some beaches, between which is necessary to notice those of Burriana , Calahonda , the Living room , Torrecilla and Playazo , with an environment which did not undergo yet the consequences of the uncontrolled urbanization of the littoral malaguene. Nerja has a soft climate all the year, which allows the subtropical fruit culture like the cherimoya or the Avocat (fruit).
