Neretva
The Neretva (or Narenta ; in Croatian Neretva , in Serbe Neretva/Неретва ) is the principal river of Herzégovine and Dalmatie and one of more important of Bosnia-Herzégovine. The sources of Neretva are located at 1 320 m of altitude in the the dinaric Alps close to Jabuka (80 km in the south of Sarajevo). In the top of its course, Neretva is one of the most cold rivers of the world (with an average of 7-8º C during the summer months), of extremely clean water and a particularly delicate endemic flora and a fauna.
After being last in broad throats, the river runs on approximately 100 km in North-western direction, then close to Jablanica its course directs towards the South and is thrown in the Adriatique in a delta close to Ploče in Croatia. Of the 225 km length of the river, 203 are in Bosnia-Herzégovine and 22 in Croatia. The principal affluents of Right Bank are Rakitnica, Rowed it and Trebiž; those of left bank are Buna and Bregava.
The main city along Neretva is Mostar where, following the horrors of the war, the famous old man bridge was reconstituted ( Stari Most ). The other cities are Konjic, Jablanica, Čapljina and the Počitelj history.
The delta of Neretva is essential with the southernmost agriculture of Dalmatie, since it constitute one of the rare irrigated zones of the area.
