Nekhen

Nehken (Greek: translity in Hiéraconpolis , Hiérakonpolis , or Hiéracompolis ; Kôm el-Ahmar ) is a town of ancient Egypt pertaining to the third names High-Egypt.

Located at a hundred kilometers in the north of Aswan, Nekhen was during town of Bouto in Low-Egypt.

It is one of the places where the god falcon Horus was venerated, as of the prehistoric time.

The excavations of the temple delivered a great number of crowned objects going up to the predynastic time. One found two important cemeteries there protohistoric, with painted tombs and the remainders of a city going back almost to the beginning of the civilization of Nagada.

The excavations on the site of two distinct cemeteries reveal the first steps of many characters and practices which will define later the Egyptian civilization of the dynastic times.

With the cemetery of the workmen, located in southernmost edge of the site, traces of Momification primitive and funerary Rites were preserved thanks to the dryness of sand. In the Necropolis of notable, located in the ouadi, the discovery of masks, stone statues and a funerary architecture dated as of -3500, Hiérakonpolis place with the avant-garde of traditions dedicated to long and rich history.

The site remains especially known to have delivered the Palette of Narmer which represents the result of an extraordinary evolution which began at least 500 years before the birth of Narmer.
