Ned Ludd
British historical character of the end of the 18th century beginning of the 19th century.
Ned Ludd , workman and militant English. Some retain only the destruction of a cotton stock in 1782, but it was made known by the organized destruction of the machines (to be woven in particular) which, according to him and its assistants, replaced little by little the human workmen and thus threw them to unemployment. The Luddites, which fought the progression of mechanical work around the Années 1810 were baptized on its behalf and sent threatening letters signed of this mysterious “Ludd General”.
