Necochea

Necochea is a town of Argentine located on the Atlantic coast of the province of Buenos Aires. It is the place chief of the partido of Necochea. The city has an important port which it divides with the town of Quequén, which as it is with the mouth of the Río Quequén Grande.

The city is selected each year by thousands of tourists who adopt it in order to spend their summer holidays there. One can divide the city into two parts, the old administrative center, and the new center, i.e. the balneal city.

Situation

The geographical coordinates of the city are. It is built at an altitude of 35 meters.

The city is located at 528 kilometers of Buenos Aires and at 131 kilometers of Mar del Plata.

Origin of the name

Founded the October 12th 1881, the city bears its name in the honor of the general Mariano Pascual Necochea, pomegranate with horse of the army of the general Jose de San Martín. The influence of the Franc-maçon nery was of first importance considering the majority of the founders belonged to the cabin Sol Argentino 160 . The constitutive instrument of the city also shows it since he calls upon the protection of the G.A.D.U. (Great architect of the Universe) and signatures with three points of the majority of those which subscribed to this act.

Climate

Necochea has a wet moderate climate, softened by the influence of the Atlantic Ocean. In summer the maximum temperatures can reach the 35 °C. The winters are a little cold, although snow is extremely rare. The climate of the city is influenced, as it is the case of all the Argentinian Atlantic coast, by rather strong winds, frequently of the northern and north-eastern sector.

Economy

The economic main activity is that created by the existence of the port, which is in importance the second of the country. The other activities are agricultural, and especially tourism and the trade.

Access roads

Provincial roads 88 make it communicate with Miramar and Mar del Plata and beyond the latter with Buenos Aires and the remainder of the northern coast, by means of provincial roads 2 and 11. Provincial roads 227 link Necochea with Lobería and Balcarce - connected it even with roads 55 and 29 worms Buenos Aires -, provincial the nº 86 connects the city to Benito Juarez, and the trunk road n° 228 with Tres Streams and the south of the country. Finally the provincial roads nº 75 lead to the towns of San Cayetano and Gonzales Chaves. Each one of these ways is connected inside the province of Buenos Aires and with the remainder of the territory of the country.

One can moreover arrive at the city by rail, thanks to the swift services by Ferrobaires on the ways of railroad General Roca .

Necochea has an aero club, by which it is also possible to reach that point by means of the lines of the company Líneas Aéreas del Estado (LADE).

The city offers an impressive range of possibilities. What to satisfy all the tastes a little, including those of the most demanding holiday makers.

Beaches

Necochea has the vastest beaches of the country, which reaches 300 meters at certain places and extends over a 70 kilometers length from littoral (either a length higher than the whole of the littoral of Belgium). These beaches are equipped with seaside resorts and equipped with the most advanced infrastructure of services.

Park Miguel Lillo

It is a park of more or less 500 hectares is 5 square kilometers, where one can meet beautiful specimens of Eucalyptus. It is in this park that one carries out the Festival of Niños ( Festival of the children ), one of the most important rejoicings of the city. It is equipped with an amphitheater for the realization of the spectacles. It is as within the park as the museum of the Natural science and Regional History is, as well as the Complejo Casino (Complex Casino). In the park one is authorized to camp and make fire (campfires, asados or barbecues). One can rent there bicycles, small carts and carry out walks with horse, and also sail in boat on the superb lakes which are there.

Caves

Another spectacle which the city offers, are the caves formed by the erosion produced by the strong waves of the sea. They are with a few kilometers of the urban center and one reaches it by the avenues n° 2 and n° 10. If one continues by these avenues on 35 km, one arrives at the cave of the tiger or Cueva del Tigre . This name has its origin in a local legend giving a report on the history of the Tigre del Quequén , a gaucho of the area, which fleeing justice took refuge in these caves.

Cascades

With 16 kilometers upstream of its mouth, the Quequén Large form of the natural cascades of a great beauty, which attract quantity of tourists. At this place one can make picnics. But it is in more one excellent place for fishing.

Complex of the casino

Located on the avenue n° 2, vis-a-vis the beaches and surrounded by the park Miguel Lillo, the complex of the casino offers: basins of swimming, tracks of ice-skating, grounds of Bowling, restaurants, commercial premises, inter alia things. It has in more one auditorium, which offers spectacles of national fame during the season of summer.

The Provincial Institute of Lottery and the Casinos of Buenos Aires is the organism in charge of the exploitation of the room of the plays.

In August 2001, the complex suffered from a fire at the time which it was destroyed partially. Later on the municipality of Necochea started of work for the recovery of the places, which represent much for the city.

The pier or will escollera

According to the coastal avenue in direction of the Río Quequén Large, one arrives at the southern pier. One can walk on on this one until his end, to be able to observe the mouth of the Río Quequén Grande in the Atlantic Ocean. One can see large waves there striking with violence the concrete structures of the pier, which constitutes an attractive spectacle. The pier is a place privileged for the fishermen, being given the excellent depth which it presents. Moreover one can observe there the interesting spectacle of the comings and goings of the steamers which come to embark or discharge their products in the port from Quequén.

The pedestrian ones

The town of Necochea has two pedestrian: the street n° 83 and the n° 85, a length of 200 meters each one. The first of them prohibits the transit of the cars the every day of the year; the second allows the passage of the cars except the ends of the week.

These streets are full with restaurants, bars and trade of various type, where one must underline the sale of typical gingerbreads of the coast. Moreover, the evening and the first part of the night it produced there of the spectacles of street, in the open air.

Quai des fishermen

This landing stage was built in 1970. In its original project, the structure would have had 120 meters length in the sea, a staircase to reach it and a coffee restoring in its upper part. However one built only the quay, and many years later the staircases of access. Then time passed and fault of receiving adequate maintenance, the structure will be déterriora until coming to a critical point.

In 2004, being given risk that the fishermen ran and the people who used it, the municipality decided to eliminate the staircase from access. It is waited until for the end the 2006 quay will be demolished. Instead of this last one is evaluating the possibility of building a small pier.

Monument with the General San Martín

Located at the intersection of the avenue n° 59 and the avenue diagonal San Martín, is it monument with the General Jose Francisco de San Martín.

This monument comprises a statue of Libertador and three pillars of white color, on which the weapons of the Argentine were carved, of the Chile and the Peru (three countries released by San Martín). The flags of the three countries are hoisted in a permanent way.

Lake of the Swans

The Lago of los Cisnes (lake of the swans) is an artificial lake located on the avenue n° 2, with a few meters of the Pinolandia avenue. It received this name being given the great quantity of Swans and of Duck S which lives in its water.

One can rent watery bicycles there, to traverse the lake. One can also saunter in the paths which border it.

There also exists in this place a mini zoological garden, where one can admire certain specimens of goats, Nandou S, and Faisan S, inter alia.

Festival of the children

The National Festival of the Spectacles for Children, also known under the name of Festival Infantil is greatest and older festival of this type in the country.

The meeting consists in the presentation of works of theater directed towards the children. For that of the childish theater companies arrive from various places of Argentina and outside. The first of these festivals took place in 1962, and since then, all the January 6th, the evening of the Twelfth Night, begins a new edition from the festival.

The festival begin with a procession from fit with body which traverses the main streets. Each year the tanks and fit with body follow a specific set of themes. Take part moreover friends, troops of musicians, groups of national dance and foreign communities.

The festival proceeds in Parks Miguel Lillo, and the access to see theatrical works is completely free.

Population

The city counted 65.459 inhabitants in 2001. However the urban center including/understanding the town of Quequén to which it is connected by three bridges, reached 79.983 inhabitants in 2001, which makes city the eleventh agglomeration of the province and the 42e of the country.
