Neck

The neck is the area of the body which is located between the head and the remainder of the body (Torse or trunk).

At the Man and many animals Vertebrate S, the neck is clearly drawn. For other animals, it can be limited to a simple articulation of the body.

The neck is the portion of the body which gives to the head its mobility.

Anatomy of the human neck

The neck is the way of passage of many internal organs, it allows connection between the head and the chest. Various elements vascular, nervous, muscular or visceral pass there. Anatomically, the area of the neck is delimited behind by the thorny process of C7, laterally by the articulation acromio-claviculaire and ahead by the clavicles and the manubrium sternal. In top, one delimits this area by the higher line nucale behind and the bone hyoïde ahead while passing by the process mastoïde of the temporal bone of cranium.

Vascular elements:

As regards the arterial system, one distinguishes initially two large vessels which are the artery primitive carotid and the subclavière, resulting from the brachio-cephalic arterial trunk of the right-sided and the horizontal portion of the aortic arc of the left side. The artery subclavière walks on towards the upper limb, passing under the clavicle and in the procession sclenic (grip of scalene) where it becomes artery axillaire. It gives the collateral ones before passing in the procession scalenic which is:

* thoracic artery interns
* vertebral artery
* the thyro-cervical trunk of which are born thyroid the lower, the cervical ascending one, cervical the transverse and the supra-scapular.
* the trunk cervico-intercostal which gives rise to cervical deep and with the supreme intercostale.

As regards the artery primitive carotid, one notices the junction carotidienne on the level of C4 to give the carotids external and intern. The internal artery carotid will not give the collateral ones to the brain. As for the external carotid, it is born on the internal side from the junction carotidienne and gives different collateral.

* on its former side, upwards, it gives thyroid the higher, the lingual one and the facial one.
* on its posterior side, it gives upwards, the ascending pharyngienne, the temporal one, the occipital one and the auricular posterior one.
* its terminal sections are identified as being the average temporal artery and the artery jawbone.

As regards the venous system, it is parallel to the arterial system, the only difference lies in the vein axillaire which become vein subclavière while passing under the subclavière but in front of the scalene former one and not in the procession scalenic like does it the corresponding artery.

visceral elements:

Pharynx: Larynx:

nervous elements:

Plexus brachial: Phrenic nerve: Vagus (or pneumogastric):
