The Neak Pean is a temple in miniature close to the Preah Khan, on the site of Angkor to the Kampuchea. This small island of 350 side meters was set up in the center of the baray of Preah Khan, now drained, by Jayavarman VII at the end of the 12th century.
It comprised five basins in quincunx of which largest, in the center, was equipped with a central sanctuary symbolizing the Mont Meru towards which, since the East, the horse Balahā, the rescuer of the shipwrecked men moves.
