Nawal El Moutawakel , born the April 15th 1962 with Casablanca (Morocco), is a Moroccan athlete. She is currently Minister for Youth and the sports.
It gained the gold medal with the Mediterranean plays, in Casablanca in 1983, year during which it went to the United States to follow studies in physical education.
In 1984, Mrs. El Moutawakel enters the history like the first Arab, African woman and Moslem woman to gain a gold medal with the Olympic Games of Los Angeles by pulverizing at the same time the record of Africa of the 400 meters hedges into 54 dryness 61.
It started in 1989 a career of trainer after having obtained a diploma of physical education of the American university of Iowa.
In 1999, it is indicated Member of the Commission CIO 2000, whose mission consisted in preparing and proposing all the recommendations, before being selected in August of the same year, by the Executive committee of the International Olympic committee (CIO) like Member of the Commission 2000, whose mission was to make recommendations concerning the changes of the structures, the organization and the statutes of the CIO.
In 2004-2005, it occupied the functions of Director of the " The Sahara Sports Academy- Amby Vally - INDE" and of 1998 to 2003, the executive position of director of the Foundation BMCE BANK for education and environment.
the Moroccan Olympic champion was indicated in 2005 Member of the Commission of coordination of the JO-2012.
In January 2007, it was appointed vice-president of the Moroccan royal Federation of athletics (FRMA).
In 1995, Nawal El Moutawakel was elected member of the executive committee of the International federation of athletics amateur (IAAF), then it became member of International Olympic committee.
It was president of the commission of evaluation of the CIO for the Olympic Games 2012 allotted to the town of London.
It was elected in 1999 member of the executive committee of the International federation of Athletics Amateur (Iaaf), before being indicated a vice-president of this federation.
In July 2004, it was indicated by the International Olympic committee, president of the commission of evaluation of the candidates cities to the organization of the JO-2012 of the committee.
the October 15th 2007, it was appointed Minister for Youth and the Sports under the government Abbas El Fassi.
