Navegantes is a city Brésil ienne northern Littoral of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located at a Latitude of 26º 53 ' 56" south and with a Longitude of 48º 39 ' 15" west, with a Altitude of 12 meters. Its population is estimated at 50.888 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 111 km ².

History

The first inhabitant of Navegantes was João Dias Darzão, come from São Francisco C Sul to be established with the mouth of the Rio Itajaí-Açu, opposite the confluence with the Rio Itajaí-Mirim. In 1715, Manual Gonçalves de Aguiar, an explorer parcourrant the Littoral Santa Catarina, refers to João Dias like having already given up its grounds because of the lack of noble metals in the area.

September 16th 1906, the inhabitants start to seek a name with the locality which hitherto was called “the other dimensioned” or “Santo Amaro”. December 17th 1912, the municipal council chooses the name of Navegantes, because of many inhabitants were fishing or “navigators”.

In 1962, Navegantes conquers its administrative independence while becoming a municipality. It since became Seaside resort very required.

Economy

Apart from the Tourism, the city saw fishing and Naval construction, for which she is nationally recognized.

The city also accommodates a international Aéroport, the International airport Ministro Victor Konder.
