Navacelles
Navacelles is a common French, located in the department of the Gard and the area Languedoc-Roussillon.
Navacelles is a commune of the Gard. It should not be confused with a hamlet of the commune Herault ease of Saint-Maurice-Navacelles, famous for the Cirque of Navacelles.
Geography
Located at 13 km in the east of Ales, average altitude is of 175 meters.
History
Navacelles, which had belonged to the House of Montmorency until the end of XVIe century, échut with Marie de Montmorency, natural girl of Henri de Montmorency, constable of France, which had married in 1575 Jean de Fay, baron de Péraut, seneshal of Beaucaire and general lieutenant of the king in Country of Bresse.
Their little girl, Madeleine de Fay Péraut, married Abel de Calvière, who transmitted Navacelles to his nephew, Abel-Antoine de Calvière, baron de Boucoiran and of Vézénobres.
In 1702, his/her daughter, Marie-Anne de Calvière de Boucoiran, brought it in dowry to Joseph de Roux, colonel of dragons and sergeant of the armies of the king (1654-1712). His/her son, Jean-Louis marquis Roux (1705-1780), officer with the French guards and viguier of Avignon, sold Navacelles in the years 1740 to a middle-class family of Nimes, Roustan, which were the owners until the Revolution.
At the 17th century, Navacelles was the chief town of one of the nine deaneries of the Diocèse of Uzès. Until 1790, it was the seat of a Prieuré depend on the bishop of Uzès. In 1808, it became Paroisse deanery of Saint-Ambroix.
