The Nautile is a Sous-marin of pocket inhabited of the Ifremer.

It was brought into service in 1984 by the CNEXO become Ifremer and can plunge up to 6000 meters of depth. It is used for missions of observation, measurements, of sampling, of assistance to the submarines in difficulty, interventions on wrecks. It for example intervened on the wrecks of the Titanic and the Prestige.

The sample box can be replaced by ROBIN , ROBot of Inspection of Nautile, system téléopéré from the interior of the Nautile , which makes it possible to widen its sphere of activity, there or the Nautile cannot reach.

It can be operated starting from the surface vessels the Nadir , Atalante or the Why not? .

Nautile is based with the Seyne-sur-Mer close to Toulon where the Department of the underwater Systems of the Ifremer is.
