Naturalist (Adjectif), an erudite which practices the Science S of the Nature, in particular the Botanique, the Minéralogie or the Zoologie. This term appeared in 1527 starting from Latin naturalis and of the suffix - ist . It indicated as of this time, the specialist in Natural history but also the person who follows her natural instincts. It was largely used until the 19th century before being little by little replaced by the narrower terms of the various disciplines.

It is used at the 20th century and to appoint still today a specialist amateur in Natural history. Lastly, one named by naturalist, that which, at the 18th century and the beginning of the next century, the person charged to collect specimens of natural history, which it is within the framework of an scientific exhibition or on its own account. It also nominated, by extension, a person making trade of natural specimens.
