Natural history

The term of natural history started by indicating at the 16th century the books décrivants the objects of nature. At the next century, and more still at the 18th century, the expression was used to indicate the study of the observable objects, as well in Astronomie, as in Botanique or Géologie (today synonymous with Natural science).

The specialist in natural history is a Naturaliste.

Naturalist and biologist

Like points out it Yves Delange, there is too often opposition today between naturalist and biologist , and to quote the professor Jean Dorst:
“the old woman and always young natural history did not die, quite to the contrary it still has beautiful days in front of it. It remains us still much to learn with a pair from binoculars and a magnifying glass, especially with our eyes. The study of the animal behaviors will never be reduced to that of the neurons of the nervous system. How much fallacious is the attempt to thus go up cell with the explanation of the complex types of behaviors at the vertebrate superiors! Between what perceives the eye of the naturalist and the electron microscope of the biologist of laboratory, there cannot be contradiction, but quite to the contrary, a remarkable complementarity…
