Natty Dread (album)

Natty Dread is the first album recorded by Bob Marley after Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer left the Wailers. The name “The Wailers” indicated from now on the group of Bob, the formation which accompanied it as well in studio as on scene. The hearts of Peter and Bunny were replaced by those of I-Threes. From now on only Master on board, Bob could let burst his charisma.

The tone militant of the album is inspired by the violent climate which reigned in Jamaica during the recording, with the beginning of the year 1974.

The pieces were mixed in August with the Island Studio of London.

Anecdotes

The album was to be called Knotty Dread , but Island preferred to write it Natty Dread , which, for Bob, did not have significance at all.

Discovering that, because of the contract which it had signed in 1968 with Johnny Nash, Danny Sims and Arthur Jenkins, all the royalties generated by the world success of I Shot the Sheriff (begun again by Clapton) almost completely returned to their publisher Cayman Music, Bob decided to use the names of his/her friends to sign its new songs.
