The national teaching University (UPN), in the past national teaching Institution (IPN), is a university establishment of higher education of Kinshasa in Democratic republic of Congo (DRC).

The university is located in the commune of Ngaliema, in the district which bears its name, Binza UPN (in the past Binza IPN). Its vice-chancellor is Jean-Robert Kasele Laïsi.

History

The establishment is created by the ordinance n° 73 of the September 22nd 1961, then known like the national teaching Institute of Léopoldville. Its creation aimed at filling the lack of professors following the massive departure of Belgian professors at the time of the Congolese Crise. After having to request the assistance of UNESCO, the Congolese government recruited a team of professors expatriates in order to form teaching executives qualified for the secondary. The institute opens its doors on December 5th, 1961.

The February 25th 2005, the President of the Republic, Joseph Kabila, re-elects by decree the institute in national teaching University.
