National service of investigation of the Canadian Armed forces

The National service of investigation of the Canadian Armed forces SNIFAC (in English: Canadian Forces National Investigation Service or CFNIS) is the unit of military Police in charge of the investigations within the Armed forces of the Canada.

The creation of the SNIFAC goes back to 1997. It has the role of inquiring into all the important or significant infringements carried out against the property, the people or the Department of national defense. It has authority on all the people subjected to the " code discipline" whatever their row and their statute in the whole world and everywhere where the Canadian armed forces are installed or deployed.

The chief of the SNIFAC is a Lieutenant-colonel, which directly returns account to the general Prévôt of the Canadian armed forces.

The SNIFAC has four regional offices:

  • Halifax for the Atlantic area
  • Valcartier for the Eastern area
  • Ottawa for the center
  • Edmonton for the Western area

In addition, the SNIFAC has also establishments with Borden and Victoria. The central office of the area of Ottawa has also the responsibility of arm the international section, responsible for the Enquête S in-outside borders.

Although these offices are stationed on military bases, the members of the SNIFAC are independent of the usual chain of command of the army and depend only on the general Prévôt of the Canadian armed forces.
