The National research institute on transport and their safety ( INRETS ), created by interdepartmental decree of September 18th, 1985, is a civil Public agency of research French (EPST) placed under the double supervision of the Ministère of Ecology, the Development and Installation durable and the Ministère in load of research.
Organization
With a manpower of 500 people, the INRETS is structured in 17 research units. The institute is composed of an head office (located on the commune of
Arcueil, but in the course of transfer to
Bron for the administrative part and
Marne-the-Valley and
Satory for the franciliennes research teams). It also has regional centres: Villeneuve d' Ascq (Lille),
Bron (Lyon),
Living room-of-Provence and
Marseilles.
Fields of action
The missions of the INRETS are the research and the development, the expertise and the decision-making aid, the valorization of research and the diffusion of knowledge in the field of the surface transports but also with the interfaces of maritime and of the air one. The INRETS carries out projects, in partnership with university teams, professionals of the transport and with the economic actors of the world of transport. Its activity gathers around five great missions:
- To gather and develop the scientific knowledge by an comprehensive approach of the system of transport
- To ensure of the missions of expertise and council
- To contribute to the general effort of university education
- To develop the results of a search within the framework of economic partnerships
- Diffusing the knowledge acquired near many people
Research orientations
To answer its missions, the INRETS makes studies in the following fields:
; Safety of the people
- Health of the people and road insecurity (epidemiology, accidentology, biomechanics, psychology and sociology of the human behavior)
- Public policies: action on the behaviors and regulation of the risks
- Technology and human factors: man-machine co-operation
; Use of and the reduction grid systems of the dependence to oil
- Mobility of the people, lifestyles, territories (analyzes mobility, acceptability and conditions of changes, networks and town and country planning)
- Goods transport
- Trafic, displacements and management of the networks: tools and methods
; Reliability and durability of the transport systems, optimization of their energy consumption and reduction of their environmental impact
- sure and powerful Exploitation of guided transport and public transport
- Communication, navigation, monitoring; diagnosis and maintenance
- Evaluation and reduction of the gas emissions to greenhouse effect and polluting
- Evaluation and reduction of the noise of transport - Analysis multi-harmful effects
Examples of projects
- the project Realman the purpose of which was modeling of human movements, in collaboration with automobile manufacturers such as Renault
- the project LAVIA (Limiting device Adapting at the Authorized Speed) which has as an ambition to help the driver has to decrease its speed, worsening factor and often even starting road accidents.
- the investigation ECHO which made it possible to study goods transport in its complexity and to measure the weight of the various means of transport
- the European project Urban Track which in particular treats optimization of the strategies of maintenance of the guided transport systems, urban and which associates several European grid systems.
