National parks of Tunisia
The national parks of Tunisia are currently 8 and cover a total Superficie of 201.790 Hectare S. 2 projects of national parks are about to be concretized: that of the Djebel Zaghouan (2000 hectares) and that of the Djebel Orbata (3000 hectares).
Each National park is specific from its geographical location, its fauna and its Flore, its biological diversity and its history.
It is the forest code promulgated in 1966 and remelted in 1988 which constitutes the basic legal tool as regards conservation of the natural environment in Tunisia and creation of the national parks. The access to the parks is subjected to an prior approval. The request must be carried out near the Head office of the forests or the regional police station concerned.
Most known of the national parks, that of the Ichkeul, is classified with the world heritage UNESCO since 1980.
