National parks of Canada

The 42 national parks of Canada were created by the government of the Canada, in particular with an entertaining aim, and for the safeguarding of the fauna, the Flore and the wild places. Wood-cutting, mining, oil and energy as well as hunting and the trapping are prohibited there.

Each park must, if possible, answer 3 criteria:

  • particular beauty,
  • historical place of importance,
  • single natural site.

The first national park, that of Banff, was created in 1885 and the last in list was the Réserve of the national park of the Mounts-Torngats 2005. The 42 national parks of Canada recover 224.466 km on the whole, which accounts for 2,2% of the total surface area of the country. The network of the national parks is to 60% complete.

The federal national parks are managed by Parcs Canada.
