National parks and natural reserves of the Danube
national parks and natural reserves were installation on all the course of the the Danube in order to preserve the large biological variety vis-a-vis the human interventions.
National park of the High Danube

Between Immendingen and Ertingen, in Germany, in the the Jura souabe, the river crosses the natural park of the High Danube. Splendid rocks located in the “ opening of Danube ” count among the rare places in Germany covered with plants but free from forests. As this ground is very dry and that the temperatures know strong variations, much of avid plants of light, sometimes of the relics of the era refrigerator, could open out there. Thus one finds in the national park the unusual combination of the Mediterranean, alpine flora and of the Toundra. With nearly 750 species of different plants, whose some threatened of extinction, this preserved area of the human activity is one of richest Bade-Wurtemberg on the level of the flora.
Natural reserve “ Donauleiten ”
Donauleiten natural reserve is located in Austria between Passau (Germany) and Jochenstein. It is about a very abrupt crumpling at the place where the mountain of the Bavarian forest rose of more than one hundred meters above the plain préalpine. By their southern exposure full, the Granite and the Gneiss of these cliffs of the Danube are heated and created thus a quasi-Mediterranean climate. Thus this particular medium allowed the survival of certain rare species like the Couleuvre of Esculape, which is of color black green and which can reach 2 meters length. The large variety of insects is also remarkable: butterflies like the Swallowtail butterfly, the Flambe and the Grand Mars changing can be frequently observed there. Even the white Apollo and black still lives there by places. From the proximity of poor grounds, rather acid and dry, along the abrupt walls, and of wetter forests of leafy trees located on rock terraces covered with foam, it exists there also a very diversified flora where open out the Cyclamen, the flowers of lily, the Digitale crimson and the Digitale yellow, the daphne and of the Orchidée S like the male Orchis and the Céphalanthère. But the agrarian and forest activity intensive is responsible for the retreat of these species.
National park of the alluvial plains of the Danube

One of the greatest areas of alluvial meadows in Central Europe are the “ Donauauen , alluvial plains of the Danube, close to Vienna (Austria) to Hainburg, where the national park extends from the Lobau to the confluence with the Morava. One counts there nearly 70 fish species, 30 species of mammals and 100 species of birds.
This national park was not only created on the initiative of the Austrian government but also following protests on behalf of the population in 1983/1984 which was opposed to the construction of a hydro-electric power station. The meadow of Hainburger With was at the time occupied in a spectacular way by several thousands of people and more than 350.000 people signed a petition against the project. This popular movement saw the birth of the Austrian ecological party (Die Grünen). In 1996 the alluvial meadows were declared “ park national ”.
Today this national park is again threatened by the project of a new peripheral Viennese. This road should pass mainly in the basement of the park, in tunnels, but it would require many air infrastructures nevertheless and the Ground water, of paramount importance, could also be threatened.
Danube-Ipoly national park
The National park the Danube-Ipoly is located in Hungary and includes the mountainous solid masses of Börzsöny, Pilis, of Visegrád, left bank of the Eipel, the island of Szentendre and left bank of the Danube. 2000 species of plants different and several thousands from animal species live in this national park, among which the Lin ('' Linum capitatum '') endemic.
Kopački natural park laughs
The Kopački Natural park laughs is located in Croatia at the confluence of the Danube and the Drave. The marshes, marshes and wetlands which compose it are the residence many animal species and vegetable, including 275 species of birds. In the many secondary arms of the river also 40 fish species live. The Kopački natural park laughs, which was already recognized as being a single place at the 17th century. When the Austro-Hungarian empire granted a special statute to him, was proposed to be placed on the Liste of the world heritage of UNESCO.
Special natural reserve of Deliblatska will peščara
The special natural reserve of Deliblatska will peščara is in the Serb area of Južna Bačka, in the autonomous province of Voïvodine. It extends between the Danube, the Carpates of the south and the river Tamiš on more than 354 km and a surface of 30.000 hectares. One can see in this reserve a natural desert phenomenon, a dune in the middle of the Balkans, with a fauna and a single flora in Europe. So in Serbia the reserve carries also the nickname of Evropska the Sahara (the European Sahara). At the beginning of the 19th century, one planted Acacia S and other trees on the dunes and today more half of the landscape is retimbered and certain zones became rich person seasonal reserves of hunting. Imposing size of these “ montagnes ” of sand (more than 200 m height), their beauty and the variety of the colors of the many flowers which recover them make this medium very gravitational for the visitors.
National park of Djerdap (Đerdap)
The national park of Djerdap, located in Serbia, extends along the Danube, from the town of Golubac to the village of Tekija, over a 100 km length and a surface of 63.680 hectares. The single elements of this park are the immense processions and throats (largest in the world after those of the Large Canyon) through which runs out the Danube. The tertiary flora, the vegetation and the fauna of the park make a single natural reserve of it. One finds there more than 1100 species of plants, of the Ours, the lynx, the wolf S, the jackals with striped sides, the black storks, like some Hibou X. The man was also always present in this area, which attests of many vestiges, like the immense marble plate “ Tabula Traiana ”, some are visible with the museum of Lepenski Vir.Other Serb national parks located along the Danube are the special natural reserve of Gornje Podunavlje and the national park of Fruška Gora.
Reserve biosphere of the delta of the Danube

The Delta of the Danube, located in Romania and at the border of the Ukraine, more: 2800 km of its source, are the area of the mouth of the river in the Black Sea. It is the largest river delta in Europe after the delta of the Volga. It consists of four principal arms (Chilia, Tulcea, Sulina and Sfântu Gheorghe) as well as innumerable side arms, floating islands, dead arms and lakes, but also of virgin forests and extremely dry biotopes located on dunes. This ecosystem of a surface of: the 5000 km ², by far largest of planet, are the greatest wetland of Europe and one considers that it gathers the greatest concentration of reeds in the world. It is the medium of life of more than 4.000 animal species and more than 1.000 plant species.
In 1991, UNESCO declared the Delta of the Danube like belonging to the natural heritage of humanity. The June 5th 2000 the governments of the Romania, of the Bulgaria, the Moldavie and the Ukraine were committed to protect and be restoring the wetlands along: 1000 km of the low Danube. It green corridor of this fact the greatest protected area of Europe became. But since the beginning of this new millenium this area also became more and more a tourist destination. Only between May and July 2004, more: 54000 people visited this area, which represents a rise from almost 50% compared to the previous year.
