National park of the Volcanos of Rwanda

The National park of the Volcanos of Rwanda is located at the North-East of the Rwanda, with 120 kilometers in the north of Kigali, the capital.

It is the large natural park of the country, creates in 1934, it extends today only on 125 km ².

It includes/understands five of the huits volcanos of the Chaîne of Birunga (meaning volcanos in Kinyarwanda national language, or Virunga in Swahili): Karisimbi, Bisoke, Muhabura, Gahinga and Sabyinyo. This chain stretches the North-East of the Democratic republic of Congo (RDC) until the south-west of Uganda.

Located between 2.000 and 4.000 meters of altitude, in a very dense tropical forest, made up mainly of bamboos.

It is universally known to be the last sanctuary of the Gorilles of mountain. The Research center of Karisoke is between Karisimbi and the Visoke Mount. It was founded by Diane Fossey for the observation of the gorillas.
