National park of Phong Nha - Ke Bang
The national park of Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng is located in the province of Quảng Bình, close to the town of Đồng Hới in the center of the Vietnam. He was recognized world heritage, at the time of the 27e plenary session of the international committee of the world heritage, concerned with UNESCO, held from June 30th to July 5th in Paris, France. The park appears among about thirty cultural and natural goods of 160 Member States of convention for the protection of the world heritage of UNESCO.
The national park Phong Nha-Kẻ Bàng, located at the north of the Truong cordillera Its, in the central province of Quang Binh, was set up at the end of the 2001, according to a decision of the government, on the basis of rehabilitation of natural reserve Phong Nha, of a surface of 85.754 hectares. This area is regarded as one of the places of karstic relief oldest of Asia, dating of more than 400 million years.
Karstic formation of the national park of Phong Nha - Kẻ Bàng evolved/moved since the paleozoic one (approximately 400 million years ago) and it is the oldest important karstic area in Asia. Following the important tectonic changes, the karstic landscape of the park is extremely complex and present of many very important geomorphological characteristics. This vast landscape, which extends to the border from the popular Democratic republic lao, offers spectacular phenomena, of which many caves and underground rivers extending on more than 65 kilometers.
Covering a surface of more than 200.000 hectares, the national park Phong Nha-Ke Bàng is composed of many splendid caves, the archeological sites and the invaluable historical vestiges and a natural tropical forest to a high biodiversity. The forest shelters 751 higher plant species, whose 36 species appear in the Red book of Vietnam. In the national park 381 animal species live concerned with four classes of vertebrate terrestrial.
