National park of Paparoa

The national park of Paparoa is located on the west coast of the island of the South of the New Zealand.

Founded in 1987, it recovers 308, of the coast to the peaks of the Chaîne of Paparoa. Another section of the park, separated from the remainder, is in north, around the Ananui brook.

The park shelters an area of Karst Calcaire celebrates, the Pancake Rocks , and several Caverne S which attracts the avid tourists of Spéléologie, but most of the territory is covered of forest and various vegetation.

In 1995 the park saw the drama of disaster of the Hollow split ( Cellar Creek disaster ), where a platform of observation collapsed, killing fourteen people.

The small village of Punakaiki is the community nearest to the park.
