National park of Large Nipple

Located at the North-West of the Wyoming, the national park of the Large Nipple protects from the landscapes of mountains and a various fauna. At the center of the park the chain of the Nipple is located whose principal top reaches 4.198 meters (13 770 feet). Seven lakes with Moraine S and a hundred alpine lakes are in the area. One frequently meets dash S, stag S and Bison S in the park. The black Ours S are common in the forest sectors, whereas one observes from time to time Grizzly S in the northern part of the park. One can observe more than 300 species of birds, in particular of the raptors.

Geography

The chain of the Nipples rise since the valley of Jackson Hole without Piedmont. It belongs to the Rocky Mountains. The highest top is the Large Nipple (4197 meters of altitude), but 12 other tops exceed 3660 meters. Jackson Hole is a Graben 90 km length on 10 to 20 km from broad at an average altitude of 2070 meters above the sea level. It borders the chain of the Nipples in the east. Its relief was worked at the time glacial: one finds horns and edges separated by U-shaped valleys. Alpine topography includes Cirque S, lakes and Moraine S. more big lake of the valley is Jackson Lake (103,4 km ²) deep of 134 meters.

Large Nipple is located just at the south of large and splendid the National park of Yellowstone.

History

The name Grand Nipple would have been given to the 19th century by Voyageurs French Canadian, working on behalf of the Compagnie of the North-West.
