National park of Itatiaia
The national park of Itatiaia ( Parque Nacional de Itatiaia ), created in 1937, is surrounded by the assembly line of Mantiqueira and is accessible to the north from the road which connects the towns of Rio de Janeiro and from São Paulo. Itatiaia has the third plus high mountain of Brazil, Pico das Agulhas Negras, of an altitude of 2.878 meters. The park attracts birds of the whole world, with its 250 different species of birds. It is surrounded by the protection zone of the environment of the mountain of Mantiqueira , which provides an ecological zone-plug for the park.
A postage stamp of Brazil emitted in 2006 was devoted to this national park. Y appear the mounts Mantiqueira, a species of amaryllis ( Hippeastrum sp.), the tree ( Tabebuia serratifolia ) and the squirrel Sciurus (Guerlinguetus) ingrami .
