National park of Helvetinjärvi

The National park of Helvetinjärvi (the lake of the hell ) is a national park of Finland, in the area of the Pirkanmaa. It is located on the commune of Ruovesi, to approximately 85 km in the north of Tampere, not far from the National park of Seitseminen.

The park is a good illustration of the wild forests of the north of the Häme, with a very broken ground, culminating with 210 meters of altitude, that is to say 120 meters higher than the close lakes. The center of principal interest of the site, which attracts the tourists since the beginning of the XIXe century is the fault of Helvetinkolu , a very deep ravine and sinks unusual in Finland. These strange geological formations result from crackings of the earth's crust going back to 150-200 million years.

Side fauna, one finds there flying squirrels and many protected birds, in particular the tridactyl Pic and the Gobe-fly dwarf.
