National park of Frontenac

The national park of Frontenac , of a surface of 155,3 km ², is located at the Quebec in periphery of the Lac Saint-François, to approximately 30 km in the south of Thetford Mines. This park with for mission of protecting and of making available an element representative of the natural area from the links of the Estrie, Beauce and of Bellechasse. It shelters more than 153 species of birds and nearly 30 mammalian species of .

The park is divided into 3 branches of industry: Saint-Daniel, Holy-Praxède and Southern. The park is managed by the Québécois government through the Société of the establishments of outdoor of Quebec (SÉPAQ).

History

The area of the lake Saint-François was formerly occupied by the Abénaquis. Towards half of the 19th century, the area was finally colonized for ends of agriculture and the forestry development. In 1917, the Barrage Jules-Allard was built at the end of the lake, which went up the level of the lake of 8 m, which doubled the surface of the lake. In 1967, the area was proposed for the creation of a provincial park. It is finally in 1987 that the park east creates.

Sector Saint-Daniel

The sector Saint-Daniel in the north of the park, close to the village of the even name, it is the sector more arranged park with its beaches, its 96 spaces of camp-site and its cycle track of 8 km. The sector also is recognized for its peat bog, one of the largest peat bogs structured of the south of Quebec.

Southern sector

The Southern sector is located south of the park close to the villages of Lambton and Saint-Romain, it includes/understands the Sauvage bay amongst other things. The sector is mainly dedicated to the Boat-camp-site and the pedestrian Randonnée. The activities are mainly centered with the camp-site of Wild Bay.

Sector Holy-Praxède

The sector Holy-Praxède is located close to the village of Holy-Praxède. This sector is less arranged park and is summarized with a surface of Pique-nique.
