The national park of Canyonlands ( National Canyonlands Park ), is located close to Moab, in the Utah. He was proclaimed national park the September 12th 1964. The surface of the park is of 1.366 km ². It offers to the visitors a series of landscapes coloured and worked by the erosion of the river Colorado, upstream of the Lac Powell and the Large Canyon, and the Green River, in a semi-desert medium. The park is in fact divided into 3 distinct parts delimited by the two rivers (which meet in the middle of the park). The 3 parts are Island in the Sky, the Needles and The Maze. Each part presents its own characteristics. He proposes from the point of view overhanging the canyons and many ways for VTT and cross-country vehicles.

Geomorphology and geology

In 1868 major John Weslet Powell, professor of geology, set up a forwarding of which the goal was to exploit the rivers Green and Colorado. Forwarding started at the end of May and lasted until the end of August. In its newspaper Powell described a single and strange area.

Canyonlands are in the north of the Plateau of Colorado in the Utah.
