National park San Guillermo
The National park San Guillermo is located in the Département of Iglesia at the northern end of the province Argentine of San Juan, into full Andes cordillera, to 450 km of the provincial capital San Juan. It was created in 1998 with an aim of safeguarding the portion of Puna located on the territory of the province, and which constitutes the most southern part of Puna Andean.
The national park has a surface of: 170000 hectares, is: 1700 km ². In the neighborhoods was created the Réserve of biosphere San Guillermo old provincial Reserve, under the auspices of UNESCO. By adding the reserve with biosphere (: 811460 ha) with the national park (: 170000 ha), it are: 981460 ha of the most southern surface of Puna (semi-desert of altitude of South America) which is thus protected, including/understanding three phytogeographical areas:

the forest of leafy trees and thorn-bush Pre-puna
- steppes of Puna
- steppes of the high mountains of the Andes (pillars altoandines).
Thanks to the juxtaposition of these two contiguous protected areas, the populations of Guanaco S and Vigogne S are recovering (in 2006).
Flora
One finds there a vegetation very particular, related on the dryness of the air, the lack of moisture, and the coldness of these grounds.
Fauna
Fauna is very specific also there, and in its center of the invaluable animals, currently threatened.The principal animal species protected in the park are the Vigogne, the Nandou of Darwin (or Pterocnemia pennata called locally suri ) and the Guanaco.
