National order of Quebec

L National order of Quebec , created in 1984, is the highest distinction given by the Gouvernement of Quebec to underline the contribution of Inhabitant of Quebec and Québécois with the radiation of the Quebec or which took part to a significant degree in its evolution.

Description

The expression “National order of Quebec” means at the same time the distinction and the group of people who received this one.

This order is composed people on whom it government conferred the title of Large Officer (G.O.Q.), of Officer (O.Q.) or Knight (C.Q.). He testifies to the eminent actions accomplished by people, actions which marked the evolution of Quebec or which allowed its radiation in the various Québécois branches of industry.

On reception of candidature of any person born in Quebec or residing there, members of the National Assembly of excluded Quebec, a group of people, formed in council, makes to its recommendations with the Prime Minister for Quebec. This last then nominates the persons who will receive one of the three titles mentioned before.

A badge in the form of medal accompanies the handing-over of each title. These badges take as a starting point the heraldic pieces of furniture of Quebec, as conveyed by the flag of Quebec: the flower of lily and the colors blue azure and white.

A person can receive various titles during her life, just like it can receive them on a purely posthumous basis. The Prime Minister for Quebec can also carry out foreign nominations (for example, Jacques Chirac is Officier or the Abbé Pierre which is Grand Officer).

History

The National Assembly of Quebec sanctions the Law on the National order of Quebec on June 20th, 1984. This distinction is decreed annually as from the year 1985.
