Created on the initiative of Marcel Landowski, director of the Music to the Ministry for the Culture, this original orchestra was consisted of the meeting of the orchestra of the Opéra of Nantes and the orchestra of the Company in the Popular Concerts of Angers, directed since 1962 by his president Jean Bauer. This last has work for creation in 1971, of a permanent orchestra, the future Philharmonic orchestra of the Country of the Loire , also known under name OPPL.
Thus, since the origin, this orchestra has the effect of having its seat in two cities with its musician hundred broken down per half in Angers and Nantes.

Course

Pierre Dervaux was its first musical director. He printed from the start to him a “French color” marked by the recordings of Vincent d' Indy, Henri Rabaud and Gabriel Pierné. This orientation was continued by Marc Soustrot which succeeded to him during eighteen years, of 1976 to 1994. With him the orchestra made many rounds (the USA, Poland, Romania, Italy etc)

The Netherlander Welding Hubert, musical director of 1994 to 2004 gave to this orchestra new bases, privileging the repertory Viennese (Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven) and widens his audience. The orchestra became “national” in 1996 and gave concerts in Germany, in Hungary, in Salzburg and in China.

Brazilian the Isaac Karabtchevsky is the fourth musical director. As of its arrival in 2004 it creates, beside the orchestra, a chorus amateur in order to widen the repertory with the vocal philosopher's stones and the Oratorio S and to tie a stronger bond between the orchestra and the public. Isaac Karabtchevsky privileges the great repertory of the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century (Tchaïkovski, Mahler, Stravinski, Bartók).

Under its direction, the orchestra carried out a triumphal round in the German main cities (Cologne, Dusseldorf, Nuremberg etc) and is on the point of carrying out a great round in Latin America (Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro).

Under the impulse of Welding Hubert and the District council of the Countries of the Loire, the philharmonic orchestra became national orchestra and wants to be the cultural floret of the Pays of the Loire.
