National orchestra of Lyon

The National orchestra of Lyon (ONL) is a Symphony orchestra French established with Lyon.

History

Lyon is the single French provincial town to accommodate two symphony orchestras. One, covered by this article, is in charge of the symphonic repertory, while the Orchestre of the national Opera of Lyon directs the lyric season.

The National orchestra of Lyon finds its roots in the Société of the great concerts of Lyon founded in 1905 by Georges Martin Witkowski. In 1969, within the framework of the foundation of regional orchestras by Marcel Landowski, it becomes a permanent orchestra of a hundred Musicien S under the name of Philharmonic orchestra the Rhone-Alps . The Ministère of the Culture grants a quizaine later to him years the statute of national orchestra and it is renamed in 1985 National orchestra of Lyon , its current name.

In 1975, the orchestra settles in the Auditorium of Lyon, lately built in the district of Share-God.

The National orchestra of Lyon is subsidized by the town of Lyon, the Ministry for the Culture and the District council of the Rhone-Alps.
