National orchestra of Capitole of Toulouse

The national orchestra of Capitole of Toulouse is the Symphony orchestra of the town of Toulouse. It domiciled with the Halle with the Grains, accompanies the theater by Capitole and carries out many rounds. It mainly developed thanks to Michel Plasson.

The contribution of Michel Plasson

Arrived in 1968, Michel Plasson has discovered in 1974 the Halle with the Grains, a hexagonal building, market with corn of the 19th century used for 25 years like sport hall. It made there occur the orchestra for the integral of the Symphony S and the Concerto S of Ludwig van Beethoven and the room is adopted like main home.

Michel Plasson then carries out the orchestra in round out of France, records with him the vast majority of his discography, at EMI (a hundred discs, for which several are rewarded), and makes him meet the prestigious artists of the classical music: Barbara Hendricks, Régine Crespin, Roberto Alagna, Teresa Berganza, Jose Will square, Jessye Norman

With its departure in 2003, Michel Plasson leaves behind him an orchestra which it led to very an high level in France, among the first. That is seen at the received prices (price of the Académie Charles-Cross-country race, price of the Academy of the French Disc, price of the Academy of the Lyric Disc, Cæcilia Grand Prix in Belgium, World Grand Prix International Record Critic' S Award, several Victoires of the Music…) ; with the national label that Plasson saves with the orchestra; with the requirements of recruitment, for example the program of the contest of Violin of September 2006.

Around the orchestra

In 2004, Michel Plasson is named honorary leader and in April 2005, it is the young chief Tugan Sokhiev, named by the Town of Toulouse which replaces it in its role of invited principal chief and to advise musical. The associated leader is Stephan Cardon.

The orchestra is supported by HELPED, i.e. the Association of the Industrialists and Amis companies of the orchestra, which “joins together the companies, industries, business firms and of services, all the sizes of Toulouse and the Midday-Pyrenees Area, decided to support the actions carried out by the Orchestra and to help with its national and international radiation”. One counts there the well-known names in Toulouse of Airbus, the District council the Midday-Pyrenees or the newspaper the Dispatch of the South.

The orchestra, under the impulse of Michel Plasson, launched out in programs largely turned towards the young public. Thus, it presents each year, as well as the usual concerts of week for the adults , in the concerts Sunday morning, with the more accessible program (Pierre and the wolf, Piccolo, Saxo and Company, the Carnival of the animals…) and often presented and explained by a commentator (Frederic Lodéon thus did it). One notes also a recent educational partnership with the Vice-chancellorship of the Academy of Toulouse.
