National opera of Bordeaux

The national Opéra of Bordeaux is an institution of the public service of the culture organized in the form of a personalized Régie.

Its history is related to that of the Grand Theater where its seat and with that of the National orchestra Bordeaux Aquitaine is which assists in its lyric representations or choreographic.

He is member of the European Network of the educational services of the houses of opera (RESEO) and adheres, like twenty-two other opera houses, with the Réunion of the operas of France.

Administration

The Board of directors is composed of six representatives of the town of Bordeaux, two representatives of the State and a representative of the District council of Aquitaine. The direction is ensured by Thierry Fouquet since May 1996 and Charles Jude for the dance since September 1996. Its operation is contingent on a structure of approximately 200 artists and 170 collaborators divided between the various directions administrative, financial, artistic, technical, human resources, public and development. In 2003, the recourse to the intermittent rose with 1950 contracts.

The cultural activity and the territorial development

The institution of Bordeaux obtained the label national Opéra , on June 28th, 2002, by a convention signed between the State (Direction of the music, the dance, the theater and the spectacles of the Ministry for the culture), the city and the area and together with engagements of the opera as regards regional decentralization of its programming and actions in direction of different the public. The label (from which five houses profit to date from opera) implies a project articulated around three criteria: artistic (widening of the repertory of Monteverdi to the contemporary creation), professional (continuing educations, teaching device or of insertion, minimum number of annual curtain raisers), territorial (strong presence in the department and the area).

Beyond the representations of its operas, concerts or ballets, or those of the invited companies, the Opera organizes specific or permanent events of discovered and animation around its activities and its places: day open doors, exposures, repetitions public, visit of the workshops, conferences, day of the chorus, month of the orchestra, campus in music, opera crous, the child and the dance and the child and the music, etc These development actions cultural are supported by the town of Bordeaux, the Regional management of the cultural affairs, the District council of Aquitaine and the Vice-chancellorship.

The demonstrations programmed by the national Opera of Bordeaux are given primarily to the Grand Theater, the Sport hall or space Saint-Remi, but also rooms Jean Vauthier or Antoine Vitez (in the past Jacques Thibaud) of the National theater Bordeaux Aquitaine, with the Eglise Notre Dame or the Cathédrale Saint-Andrew.

The Opera organizes moreover the rounds of the National orchestra Bordeaux Aquitaine and the Ballet in Aquitaine region and beyond: Arcachon, Mérignac, campus of Pessac-Talence-Gradignan, Périgueux, Agen, Mount-with-Marsan, Mimizan, Soustons, Orthez, Royan, Holy, Enghien-the-Baths.

Ballet of the National Opera of Bordeaux

The company, heiress of prestigious last acquired by the Dance in Bordeaux, consists of 38 artists. Charles Jude, Principal dancer of the Opera of Paris, was named in September 1996 with the direction of the Ballet of the national Opera of Bordeaux where he excels in choreographic creation through the famous second readings of ballets while continuing his career of Interprète. The traditional repertory and neo-classic of the Ballet grew rich since years 1990 by contemporary works making it possible to propose each season a program diversified able to satisfy a demanding public.

The company moves in rounds (Japan, the United States, Spain, Italy, Paris, Kiev, Lausanne…) and takes part in the great international festivals (Edinburgh, Budapest, Saint-Pétersbourg, Havana, Netherlands, Italy…). The Ballet of the Opera of Bordeaux east prize winner of the prices Serge Lifar and Herald Angels and obtained the price of the best foreign ballet with Cuba.

Chorus of the National Opera of Bordeaux

Together of forty artists directed by Jacques Blanc since 1999, the Chorus of the national Opera of Bordeaux takes part in the lyric spectacles but also in the symphonic concerts of the National orchestra Bordeaux Aquitaine.

The technical Management and of production is ensured by Giulio Achilli. It gathers the whole of the services essential to the realization of a project: workshop of decorations (construction, sail making, painting, sculpture, joinery, iron work), personnel of plate (machinery, light, accessories, its), workshop of seam, clothing, accessories, wig, make-up, research department…
