National museum of the fine arts of Quebec
The National museum of the fine arts of Quebec is a Musée of the Ville of Quebec gathering approximately 25 000 works primarily produced with the Quebec or by Québécois artists, and of which some go back to the 18th century. It also includes/understands a Bibliothèque since 1987. The museum is located on the Plaines of Abraham, in the park of Field-of-Battles.
Founded in 1933, the museum was known initially under the name of “Museum of the province of Quebec”, then of “Museum of Quebec” from 1961 before being renamed into 2002 of its current denomination by the government of Bernard Landry. It comprises three houses. One of these buildings is old the Prison of Quebec, dating from the 19th century, its installation interior constitutes a witness of the prison life besides at the time. Since 1995, the museum receives the financial support of a foundation, the Foundation of the museum, which collects and invests funds for its account.
Enlarging
Indeed, the National museum of the fine arts of Quebec (MNBAQ) announced its enlarging at the cost of 90 CAN million which will be useful has to buy a related ground with the current museum.
An international contest of architecture will be launched before long.
