National memorial of France of overseas

The national Mémorial of France Overseas is a municipal project of the town of Marseilles of construction of a center intended to recall the Histoire and to maintain the memory the people having lived in the French Colonies during XIXe and XXe centuries. This center, claimed long time by associations of Repatriated S, was decided by the municipality of Marseilles in the year 2000. August 4th, 2003, the Prime Minister, Jean-Pierre Raffarin, declared that the State joined this project.

This memorial, whose director is Jean-Jacques Jordi, who must open beginning 2007 will be established in the 8th district, 28-34 boulevard Rabatau. The architect charged to coordinate construction is Jean-Pierre Lott.

This center will have activities:

  • museographic with a gallery of reference in particular presenting the history of the territories where France was presents,
  • scientific, with in particular a research center and of information, and the organization of conferences,
  • cultural, with in particular the organization of literary, artistic or cinematographic meetings, and of the educational activities.
