A national language is Langue considered as clean with a Nation or a Pays, and whose exact definition varies according to the countries. In certain countries, a language can have a statute of national language recognized by the Government or the law. The concept merges sometimes with that of Official language according to the countries.

In Africa, the official languages are generally languages used by the administration or the writings, whereas the national languages are generally oral and vehicular languages.

In China

In China, the dialect Mandarin of Beijing, named “國 ” in Chinese (Pinyin: Guóyǔ), translated by “national language”, also called “standard Chinese”, was high with the row of national language by the Government following the revolution of 1911 in order to reinforce the feeling of national unit. Various elements of vocabulary of other dialects or Chinese languages were integrated, following a linguistic policy, or naturally. In 1949, the Popular republic of China was installation, this one continued the linguistic policy, but re-elected the national language, based on the Pekinese dialect, " 普 通 " (pinyin: pǔtōnghuà), translated by “ordinary language”.

In Indonesia
