National laboratory of Brookhaven
The National laboratory of Brookhaven or National Brookhaven Laboratory in English, is an American national laboratory located at Upton on Long Island. It was created in 1947 on the site of Camp Upton, an old American base. Brookhaven is directed for the Département of the Energy of the United States by the Brookhaven Science Associates and is specialized in Nuclear physics.
Its personnel consists of more than 3.000 scientists, engineers and technicians. The discoveries made within the laboratory gained six Nobel Prize.
The Video game would have also been born there, with Tennis for Two in 1958.
This laboratory is equipped with a relative Collisionneur of heavy ions intended for research on the Plasma quark-gluon, the national synchrotronic Source of light and two Cyclotron S used to produce radioactive material intended for medical applications. Research centers around the Physique particles, Biologie of the structures and nuclear Non-prolifération.
An accidental escape of Tritium in the ground water during the Années 1990 having been dissimulated with the public caused the anger of the residents and caused the dismissal of the direction.
This laboratory contributed to discovered Quark charm.
