INSA of Rouen is an university of Engineer S located at Rouen in France. It belongs to the network of INSA.
The INSA of Rouen is located on the Campus of Mount-Saint-Aignan and on that of Madrillet at Saint-Etienne-of-Rouvray the.
It trains each year on average 250 engineers.

History of the Institute

The INSA of Rouen was very specialized in Chimie as its history testifies it: the bases of the school were institutes of chimie.

1917 : Creation of the Institute of Chemistry of Rouen - ICR
1959: Creation of the Higher National institute of Industrial Chemistry of Rouen - INSCIR
1985: Creation of the INSA of Rouen member of the network INSA
1987: Opening of department CFI - Fine Chemistry and Engineering
1989: Opening of department GM - Mathematical Genius and of department EP - Energetics and Propulsion
1995: Opening of department MÉCA - Mechanics
1999: Opening of department ASI - Architecture of the Information systems.

Opening of the Bilingual International Section (SIB).

2004 : Opening of an option at department CFI: MRIE - Control Industrial Risks and environmental impacts
January 2005: Certification ISO 9001:2000 of the activity of Collective Projects of Integration of department ASI. First teaching activity " projet" certified ISO 9001:2000 in the course of a French school of engineers.
2005 : The INSA of Rouen celebrates its 20 years of existence to the higher Research and training service

Course with the INSA of Rouen

STPI

The schooling is carried out over five years during which the student in engineering acquires scientific competences, in communication and management. The courses, sometimes in partnership with the company, gradually direct it towards its future trade (reports/ratios, projects, presentations, international…).

The first two years constitute the " first cycle" or department STPI (Sciences and Technology For the Engineer), this cycle allows to inculcate general knowledge in the whole of promotion and to help it to choose its future department of speciality. Indeed, the fourth six-month period (second part of the second year) proposes a great number of matters (UV) free to start specialization.

Departments of speciality

The three last years are currently divided into five departments of speciality (having sometimes interactions), here the list of the departments:

Architecture of the Information systems (ASI)
Energy and Mechanical (EP) Propulsion
(Méca)
fine Chemistry and Engineering (CFI)
Mathematical Genius (GM)

Two new specialities could be born soon, enablings are currently examined by CTI:

Civil engineering
Control of the Industrial Risks (which is currently an option of speciality CFI)

If these enablings are granted, of the engineers of speciality Civil engineering and Control industrial Risks could be graduate as from 2011.

Training courses

The student in engineering is brought to carry out three obligatory training courses: the working training course at the end of the first year (1 month), the training course technician at the end of the third year (2 months), and the training course engineer which sanctions the fifth year (6 months).
These various training courses make it possible the student in engineering to become aware of the problems of the people whom it will be brought to diriger.
Thus, at the time of its entry in the work world, he will be already informed total operation of the Entreprise that he will have largely apprehended during the five years.

Doctorate

The young qualified engineer with the possibility of continuing its studies by a doctorate with the center even of INSA.
Thus, each year, a hundred doctorands prepares a thesis in the 8 laboratories of the école.

Teaching body

80% of the professors of the INSA of Rouen are doctors, which represents the strongest ratio of all the schools of engineers.

Particular sections

SIB - Bilingual International section

Section SIB accommodates pupils - foreign engineers at a rate of half of its manpower. Plethora of nationalities are represented, as this nonexhaustive list shows it: Vietnam, China, Malaysia, Japan, Romania, the U.K., Senegal, Mexico, Bulgaria, Brazil, Greece, Moldavie, India.
Half of UVs is taught in English by professors French or English (Dr. Simon Busbridge, professor of physics, emblematic figure of the section).
It is about the strongest ratio of courses exempted in English of all network INSA (contrary to the traditional ratio 80% French/20% English).
Manpower SIB 2006 accounts for 31,5% of promotion 2006 (either 100 pupils out of 320).

SHN - High level sportsmen

The SHN, selected for their sporting and scientific competences, profit from an installation of their timetable during their first cycle: the two years of first cycle, thus, are distributed over three years in order to enable them to devote an important time to the drive.

The CO. of the INSA of Rouen is opened with all, one can there be registered as of the first year of study. It is made up of 2 lesson: practice and the theoretical one.

The pupils of CO. have a weekly course of 3:00 of theatrical practice. With the program: improvisation and set of parts (for example, the CO. 1st year plays of the Pièces in an act of Anton Tchekhov). The pupils of the CO. make a representation in front of the other pupils of the INSA of Rouen in 3rd and 4th year, even in 2nd year.

The Section Theater Studies proposes with its pupils to go to see representations free 4 or 5 times in the year. The parts seen are varied, active traditional theater with the contemporary, while passing by very modern adaptations of traditional parts.

Courses known as " théoriques" are also made 3:00 per week, during ten weeks. The pupils discuss their impressions on the parts seen with the group and work on scenography (light, its, decorations…), by imagining possible settings in scene for varied parts.

Regrouping of the INSA on the technopolis of Madrillet

The Technopôle of Madrillet was created by the area High-Normandy for redynamiser the left bank of Rouen and to make High-Normandy competitive at the national level.
It will gather other schools of engineers such ESIGELEC, research laboratories, as well as other complexes scientifiques.
Currently, three departments are localized with Madrillet (EP, Méca, ASI), and the buildings of the INSA are completed and utilisés.
The residences which will accommodate the students of STPI and certain departments located at Mount-Saint-Aignan are in the course of construction.

Life coed

Residences

There exist two residences on the site of Holy Mount Aignan: the residences Welsh Evariste, and Jean Capelle.

It is undeniable that they constitute a major catalyst of cohesion between students.
The Welsh residence, located at less than 50 m of the INSA, accommodates a majority of foreign students; Moldavians, Brazilian, Rumanian, Mexican, Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian, between them. It made good things in life for the many feverish students there to divide a dish or ideas with the exotic scents. She has approximately 120 rooms.
The Capelle residence gathers approximately 496 residences, in an atmosphere slackened but favourable with work and rest, near wood the Archbishop. The exchanges between students of the two cycles are abundant and rich. Indeed, a great solidarity pushes the students to be helped, without the least competitive spirit, which reinforces even more cohesion, and ensures a strong spirit of school, which will be undoubtedly useful after obtaining the diploma.

the residences of Madrillet are for the majority of the collocations.

Being separated from the other residences, environment is less convivial. Nevertheless, intuiter can that this atmosphere will change as of the regrouping of all the INSA in Madrillet.

Clubs and Sports association

The students have the possibility of very investing in many clubs with the sets of themes diverses.
Managed for the majority at 100% by the students, they make it possible to acquire a certain capacity of organization and gestion.
Moreover, the sports association of the INSA (managed by the professors of sport) makes it possible to practice a great number of sports for a very weak price (around 30 euros for the year).
The sports suggested go from traditional football, volley ball, handball, athletics with rarest like the climbing, the diving, the ultimate, the golf…
