The national council of transport ( CNT ) is an organization French of dialog, with advisory role, placed near the Minister for the Transport S. It was created by the Loi of orientation on the inland transports (PARCELLED OUT) of the December 30th 1982.

Its composition was fixed by a decree of February 1984. It includes/understands, in addition to its president and his three vice-presidents, named by the Minister for transport, four members of Parliament, ten town councilors, the president of the Superior council of the merchant marine and that of the Superior council of the merchant aviation, twenty-two representatives of the State, four personalities chosen for their competence as regards transport, thirteen representatives of the Usager S, twenty-three representatives of haulage companies of different the modes and twenty-three representatives from the Syndicat S representative of the transport sector. All its members have a three years mandate.

It is organized in a general meeting which counts 193 members (titular and temporary) and a permanent section, of 89 members (titular and temporary) which is the decisional authority. It constitutes moreover Committees, of which is the Observatoire of the economic conditions and social of transport.

Its president is Alain Gille, general engineer of the Ponts and Chaussées.

Its mission consists in delivering opinions is on questions which are subjected to him by the ministry, that is to say on questions of which it car-was seized. It bench each year a public report/ratio on the situation and the evolution of the inland transports.

Its Internet site regularly publishes information and reports on the situation of transport in France and Europe.
