National congress (Sudan)
Founded in 1998 by former members of the Islamic National front, the National congress (RTL rear المؤتمرالوطني, transcribed Al-Mo' tamar Al-Watany , is the official party with the capacity with the Sudan. In 2000, a dissenting faction, the popular National congress, separated from the National congress because of divergences between President Omar to el-Béchir and the islamist radical Hassan Al-Tourabi. In 2005, the Alliance of labor forces, former president Gaafar Nimeiry amalgamated with the National congress.
The National congress enjoys a broad support in the north of the country. Some of its members were elected with the head about lawyers and of the majority of the ridge organizations farmers of the north of Sudan. The party is represented in the south via the inclusion of the members of the National congress of the south to the government. The southern section of the party is directed by the former Vice-president Moses Machar and Riak Gai Kok.
At the time of the legislative elections of December 2000, the party gained 355 of the 360 seats to be provided. The presidential elections of the same year transfer Omar to el-Béchir re-elected with 86,6% of the voices.
The National congress is, vis-a-vis the Liberation movement of the Sudanese people, one of the two principal parts to the signed peace agreements in January 2005 and which must put a term at the civil war.
