SNCASE or National company of the aeronautical engineerings of South-east was a company born of the nationalization of 1937.

In fact the companies Potez, CAMWOODS, Romano (established with Cannes in what will become the Space center of Cannes Mandelieu ), and the Company of Provence of aeronautical engineerings (SPCA) were thus gathered.

In 1942, it is with the SNCASE that is entrusted the settling and construction in series of the four-engined plane of transport Bloch MB.161 which will be the largest transport aircraft French of the time and named SE.161 Languedoc.

In 1948, extremely of this experiment, a four-engined plane much more ambitious is built: it is about the SE 2010 Armagnac whose first flight takes place on April 2nd, 1949. Able to transport more than 150 passengers out of 5000 km, it is been driven by 4 engines Pratt & Whitney R-4360 of 3500 ch and will be built in 8 specimens.

The company also developed seaplanes and military apparatuses which remained at the stage of prototypes:

  • the SE 2410 Grognard, hunter bomber with two superimposed engines;
  • the SE 5000 Fighter, taking off and landing on shoes since not prepared grounds;
  • the SE 212 Durandal, with delta wing;
  • the SE 700, small original Autogiro.

In the Fifties, in fact the SNCASE is charged to develop and build two fighter plans:

  • the Mistral, version under license of the De Havilland Vampire English
  • the North wind, version under license of the De Havilland Sea Venom English

And it is with the SNCASE that and the first Caravelle built is studied (SE 210) which flew in 1955.

The SNCASE also engaged in the study and the construction of Hélicoptère S. It was SE.3000 (a copy the German helicopter Focke-Achgelis F 223 Drache realized by the German team itself, to see Opération Paperclip), which gave the first impulse. It developed then the series of the SE.3100 which was the beginning of long series. SE.3120 was the first helicopter of the future series of the Alouette S and SE.3200 Frelon the first of the range of the future heavy helicopters SA.321 Super Frelon.

In 1957, the SNCASE is gathered with SNCASO to form the company South-Aviation, ancestor of the company Aérospatiale (see also Eurocopter).
