National company of the Belgian railroads
The SNCB or National company of the Belgian railroads (in Dutch National NMBS or maatschappij DER belgische spoorwegen ) is the public corporation, created in 1926, which manages the infrastructure and exploits the Belgian rail network.
SNCB is present in:
- interior transport travellers, in Belgium, accomplished within the framework of the Public service;
- international transport travellers by traditional trains, or trains at high speed, in partnership with the SNCF (Thalys, Eurostar, and TGV - network) and with dB (ICE).
- goods transport,
- the logistic offer (by its subsidiary company ABX Logistics).

The Belgian network counts 3 454 km of lines, of which 2 701 electrified. The electrification is made mainly in D.C. current 3000 V, except for the new lines at high speed (Lille - Brussels and Brussels - Liege in exploitation, and soon Liege - German border (in construction)), but also the line 43 Liege - Gouvy and the Atus-Meuse (lines 166 and 165), is electrified in Alternative course 25 000 V 50 Hz. The line goods Liege - Aachen will be electrified in 3000V on a part and 15000V on the other.
Structure of group SNCB
Since January 1st, 2005, the flow chart of SNCB was deeply re-examined in order to statisfaire with the requirements of the European commission as regards liberalization of the rail in Europe.
