The National center of the scientific research applied is an old institution of French research.

The National center of the scientific research applied was created by the decree of May 24th, 1938 which removed the National office of the scientific research and industrial and of the inventions.

The first spot of this center was to carry out an inventory of the French laboratories. The center also sends operations managers in order to observe the organization of the applied research there abroad. Commissions sets of themes are established in order to determine a list of major problems to solve (fuel, plastic, radionavigation, blood transfusion…). Calls to project are then launched near the laboratories which signs then a convention of financing with the National center of the scientific research. Thus it finances work of Frederic Joliot on the atomic fission and in May 1939, the Center consecutively deposits three patents on the production of atomic energy and the atomic explosive loads.

October 19th, 1939, the National center of the scientific research applied amalgamates with the National bank of the scientific research to form the National center of the scientific research.
