The National center of remote teaching (having Cned and not CNED as Acronym) is a public corporation of the minister of education main road, higher education and research in France offering formations to distance.1er European operator and French-speaking world, it is established today with the Futuroscope. Its managing director is the vice-chancellor Jean-Michel Lacroix.

Some figures

Cned was created in 1939. In addition to the head office, Cned is present on all the national territory thanks to its eight institutes (Grenoble, Lille, Lyon, Poitiers, Rennes, Rouen, Toulouse and Vanves). This device is supplemented by six overseas representations (Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, New Caledonia, French Polynésie and Reunion).

Total budget 2006; 94 million euros including 66 million euros of sales turnover and 28 million euros of subsidies of the ministry.

Formations

Cned offers multiple formations, Maternelle with the Université, as well as preparations with recruitment competitions of the Public office, the formation with various trades…

Cned proposes complete classes and courses with the chart for the elementary, the college, general high school, technological and professional teaching, like for the teaching of the students in difficulty with particular educational needs.

As regards supports school, Cned proposes remedial courses, courses of summer and preparation of the re-entry and exercises of support.

The offer of Cned is declined in several ranges:

• Cned-school: secondary education, of the primary education to the college, vocational training, students in difficulty having particular educational needs, course with the chart. Extra-curricular with remedial courses, courses with the chart and courses of summer.
• Cned-superior: initial training or resumption of studies with cycles of handing-over on level and certifying formations and diplômantes in partnership with higher educational establishments.
• Cned-contest: complete preparation or with the chart of the assistances of teacher, the public office of State and the territorial public function and hospital.
• Cned-professional: a range dedicated to professional training for the administrations, the companies and their personnel with formations certifying and qualifying, an offer Cned-company and formations to measure in answer to the invitations to tender of the deprived state enterprises and, the partnerships…
• Cned-engineering: councils and expertise, construction of suitable devices of formation with an adaptation of existing formations, an adaptation to the context of the customer.
• Cned-culture: formation in all the fields, right, political sciences, economy, management, trade, tourism, industry, office automation, multi-media, health, social, social sciences, letters, languages, arts, sports…

Cned and new technologies

Cned has been present for ten years on Internet. He proposes contents of formation and online services in complement of the other educational tools. The electronic campus includes/understands 300 spaces of formation and demonstration gathered in the logic of the teaching continuum: school, college, college, numerical university set of themes, contest… The site of Cned receives five million visits per annum. In addition, Cned produces numerical and audio-visual documents which accompany its formations but which are also accessible in free products. The audio-visual service shelters a plate of television of quality Broadcast.

History

• 1939 to mitigate the disorganization of the educational system due to the war, a service of postal tuition is created in Paris. He will know the risks of this period, seeing himself doubled of a similar service in the south of the line of demarquation.

• 1944 the decree n° 1585 of the bearing May 30th, 1944 creation of the national center of postal tuition appears with the official journal of the French State of June 21st, 1944.
• 1944 With the release, its mission is confirmed under the name of National center of postal tuition (CNEPC). It receives the statute of Lycée (within the meaning of the time). It must in particular deal with the schooling of the ill children, the former prisoners and the deportees… The lesson is seen then widened: commercial, primary, preparation with the contests of teaching…
• 2002 Publication of the new statute of the establishment by decree n°2002-602 of April 25th, 2002. Cned is seen equipped with the legal means necessary for its development and its modernization.
• 2005 Publication with the Official journal of the law n°2005-380 of April 23rd, 2005, orientation and program for the future of the school. Article 11 of the law devotes for the first time the Public service of remote teaching.
• 2006 Launching of a range of formation for the companies.
